Halong Bay, Vietnam

Left Monday morning for a 3 day, 2 night cruise and kayaking adventure excursion to Halong Bay. I used a company called Handspan (www.handspan.com). Our group was relatively small - 12 people total, which is a huge positive. On the first day we stayed on the boat and explored some caves. That night we stayed on the boat in the middle of the harbour. The next morning (Tuesday) we took the boat way out in the bay where there were no tourists (thank God) and started our kayaking. The scenery was unbelievable - i hope the pictures can do this justice but not really. We spent a few hours in the morning in the kayaks, took a swim and lunch break then more kayaking. We were able to kayak into several lagoons and also into another lagoon via a 250 yard cave that was pitch black dark and filled with bats. We then took the boat to Cat Ba island to spend the night.

Ha Noi, Vietnam

Arrived in Ha Noi saturday morning. Surpisingly easy to get thru customs which is to say they stamped my visa and i was off to the old quarter. Unlike HK, Ha Noi is filled with backpackers but not US, mostly europe, australia and canada. Ha Noi is a crazy city - scooters everywhere and no traffic laws. Everyone just goes when and where they want to. Reminds me of a human frogger game trying to cross the street. The streets are an absolute maze and change names every few blocks. Great city to get lost in. Saw Uncle Ho in his mausoleum - a highlight for sure. Also visited the Hoa Lo Prison (or Hanoi Hilton).

Hong Kong

Arrived in Hong Kong after my short 16 hour plane ride over the North Pole. Hong Kong is a really cool city, reminds me a little of New York. Spent two full days getting my plans for Vietnam and exploring the city - Victoria Harbour and the Peak. Hong Kong has a beautiful skyline in the day and at night.
